About Nakameguro

The address is Nakameguro, but Five-chōme is its quieter residential end: small streets and low houses set back from the river and its crowds. Daily essentials are close. The konbini is around the corner, the supermarket is under ten minutes away, and a park is a few streets over. The riverside cherry trees, coffee shops and boutiques are about fifteen minutes east.

The river

Nakameguro is known for the cherry avenue along the Meguro River. For two weeks each spring, blossoms arch over the water and crowds fill the strip. The rest of the year, the riverside is a good walk past coffee shops and boutiques.

The temple

Yūtenji Temple is five minutes away and gives the next station its name. The eighteenth-century compound has hand-painted murals, a bell tower and its own cherry trees in spring. On an ordinary weekday, it is quiet and almost empty.

The food

The immediate neighbourhood has a ramen shop two minutes from the door, a specialty coffee roaster eight minutes away, a Taiwanese kitchen, a wood-fired pizzeria and a steakhouse covered in pro-wrestling memorabilia. Most are a ten-minute walk or less.
